Grossman Fuels Gov. Livingston to Victory Over Raritan to Advance in State Playoffs

Highlanders move on to semi-final round after 6-4 win.

As the state tournament continues, the competition is sure to get more difficult, and the Gov. Livingston girls' varsity softball team found that out yesterday.

But as they have done so many times this season, the Lady Highlanders were once again than up to the task, edging visiting Raritan by a final score of 6-4 in the quarterfinal round of the Central Jersey Group 2 tournament.

McKenzie Liss, who was featured here on Patch earler this week, belted another two hits including a double and two runs scored, while Bari Grossman delivered a 2-for-2 performance as she continues her outstanding season.

Raritan, which came in 17-6 on the season, gave up three runs in the bottom of the first inning which gave GL plenty of momentum. But the rockets battled back in the top of the third, posting three runs of their own to tie the game at 3-all to produce the nailbiter.

Gov. Livingston pushed across a run in the bottom of the fourth and two more in the fifth to take a 6-3 lead. Raritan scored one more on the final frame before the rally was snuffed out by star sophomore Jordan Robbins.
