Marchers Wanted To Join Mountainside Memorial Day Parade

Mountainside’s parade organizing committee is looking for individuals and groups to march in this year’s Memorial Day parade held on Monday, May 27.

Planned events include a Memorial Ceremony followed by a parade honoring those who have died in our nation’s service. The ceremony will take place at 11:30am at the Veterans flagpole monument on Constitution Plaza (between the Fire House and Library). This year, Assemblywoman Nancy Munoz and Senator Tom Kean will be on hand for the event. Upon conclusion of the ceremony, Veterans, Scouts, Rescue Squad, Fire Department, Police and community groups will parade toward Deerfield School.

The parade will proceed from Constitution Plaza up to Bridle Path to Wood Valley Road to Central Ave. ending in Deerfield School parking lot. It is expected to end around 12:30pm. Any groups or individuals wishing to march in this year’s parade in Mountainside are encouraged to contact Deanna Andre at 908-244- 4111. The Grand Marshall of Mountainside’s parade will be William (Bill) Leber. Bill served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War (1952-1953) in the 2nd Infantry Division serving in the capacity of Infantry, Clerical and Supply in numerous locations throughout Korea. He was awarded a Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars & the United Nations Service Medal for service specific to the Korean War.

Bill currently serves the Mountainside VFW as Post Chaplain and is involved in civic volunteer work throughout the community.
