Mountainside Town Council Takes Care of Business
Tax appeals authorized, contracts renewed.

The Mountainside Town Council whipped through its agenda at the Muncipal Center on Tuesday evening, approving a number of resolutions.
The Mayor and Council of the Borough of Mountainside:
- Waived the permit fee of $342 for roof work for the Community Presbyterian Church

- Accepted the tax lien redemption of Allen Barkin, attorney for Hilltop Community Bank, who has paid the Borough of Mountainside all monies due including filed affidavits in amount of $54,966.56 for 1050 Route 22 also known as Block 7.D Lot 8.
- Accepted the hiring of Michael Disko, Jr. as Certified Wastewater and Treatment Operator, at an annual salary of $2,880.51.

- Accepted the hiring of Joan Brown as temporary finance assistant at an hourly rate of $17.00 effective July 25.
- Agreed to a tax appeal by Great Bell, LLC, the owner of the property designated as 165 Mill Lane for 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 real estate tax assessments. The council reduced tax assessments for 2008, 2009 and 2010 assessed valuations to $310,000; and reduced 2011 second quarter assessed valuation to $295,000.
- Authorized a $500 donation to the Deerfield School PTA in support of the PTA Fall Festival to be held on October 15 at Deerfield School. The contribution is split between the Borough and the Municipal Drug Alliance.
- Authorized property tax exception status to the Grace Apostolic Church of Christ. The church will be refunded $3,170.52 for payment of 2011 first quarter taxes and interest previously paid to the borough.
- Extended the contract for recycling services between the borough and Republic Services of New Jersey, LLC, dba Midco Waste systems, through January 25, 2014.
- Exercised an option to renew the contract with Maverick Building Services for janitorial services for an additional one year term. The current term expires January 31, 2012.
- Authorized a tax appeal from Safeguard Mountainside, LP, the owner of the property designated as 1096 Route 22, Block 7.D, Lot 16, to and agreed to refund $12,491.55 to the taxpayer for the 2011 tax year, reduce the 2010 assessed valuation to $1,834,700; and reduce the 2011 assessed valuation to $1,929,200.
