New Providence Church Is Sending Food Packets To Syrian Refugees
The Presbyterian Church at New Providence will be sending food packets to people displaced by conflict during the holiday season.

NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ — New Providence locals will have the opportunity to provide food to help refugees of the civil war in Syria during the upcoming holidays and winter months.
The Presbyterian Church at New Providence has partnered with a local aid organization, Operation Mobilization, who is working in Syria, Lebanon and Jordan to provide food packets to the refugees.
Each packet costs $30 with the goal of providing families with a packet a month for at least three months.

Typical food packets consist of several bags of beans, grains, bottles of cooking oils, canned vegetables, dried milk and sardines.
"The Presbyterian Church at New Providence stands with the people of Syria as they endure horrific tragedy and despair during this crisis and will be collecting a special Thanksgiving Offering to go directly to the people affected," said Kate Gullo, missions coordinator at the church.

The food packets will be distributed by Operation Mobilization. This week, children and babies are reportedly dying of starvation and malnutrition and the situation for civilians is forecasted to worsen this winter as medical supplies, and food availability decreases, according to the church.
