The New Providence Library Predicts an Exciting 2016

New Providence residents' feedback sets the blueprint for the library's Strategic Plan, to be published in late January.

You told us what you want in your library. It includes more books and e-books, great programs, wider publicity, and upgrades to the library’s technology.

Did you know -

That more than 2,000 items were checked out every week in 2015? These included books and audio books, DVDs and music CDs, e-books, magazines, and museum passes.

That the library has 90 magazine subscriptions, and that magazines can be borrowed to enjoy at home?

That there were over 300 children’s programs, fostering early learning for academic success, and a love of reading in young children?

That the library provides free access to the Internet, and computers with MS Word and Excel? Over 12,000 free computer sessions were provided to library visitors in 2015.

That the library provides free wifi? That over 40 distinct users connect every day? That’s over 14,000 a year in free wifi sessions.

In 2016, we’ll be improving. We will continue to provide over 300 programs for children. There will be more books purchased, with a bigger book budget: more bestsellers, novels, history and travel books, and more books for teens and kids.

The Internet computers will have high speed Internet and easy printing. The programs for adults will be selected based on your feedback. There will be music concerts, movies, and more technology instruction sessions.

We will let you know about everything that is going on at the library via the library’s website, on Facebook (New Providence Memorial Library), on Patch, on TV35/37, and via email. Sign up for emails on the library’s website, www.newprovidencelibrary.org. Or you can pick up a calendar of events at the library. You can make suggestions to the committees - or volunteer to be a member of a committee. Details will be released later this month.

Thank you to all who participated in the library survey. We are improving based on your priorities.

The New Providence Memorial Library is your library.
