The Knitting Club meets twice this month on Monday 10/1 at 7PM, and on Monday 10/15 at 7PM. Bring a project you are working on or get instruction on a knitting or crocheting project you would like to start. Coddington Room of NPML.

Oct 2 @ 7PM - Bullet Journal Book Lists

Drop in and bring your own journal or notebook, and a pen. We'll work on writing out our "to read" or other book lists in bullet journal format. Examples and printables will be available for inspiration. PBS Great American Read stickers will be available if you wish to make a list of the 100 books/series that have been nominated.

Reader's advisor and librarian Sue Lipstein of the Morristown Public Library will recommend recently published books of interest to book groups. Sponsored by the Friends of the New Providence Memorial Library. Free.

Oct 13 @ 3PM - Frankenstein Luminary Craft

As part of the New Providence Memorial Library's series celebrating the 200th anniversary of Frankenstein, attendees will paint small glass jars to look like Frankenstein, a ghost or a jack-o'-lantern, and illuminate the jars with tea candles. The New Jersey Division of Taxation presents a session on different business structures, their registration requirements with the state of New Jersey, and how to report business income to the state. Oct 21 @ 3PM - The Fiddle in America: a History and Demonstration

Matthew Backes, professor of American Studies at Rutgers and an avid player of stringed instruments, explores the origins and history of American fiddle music. This program is sponsored by the NJ Council for the Humanities Public Scholars Project and the Friends of the New Providence Memorial Library. Free.

Oct 25 @ 7PM -Movie: Frankenstein

As part of the New Providence Memorial Library's series celebrating the 200th anniversary of Frankenstein, the original 1931 black and white film will be shown. Still unnerving to this day, "Frankenstein" explores the fine line between genius and madness and features Boris Karloff's legendary, frightening performance as the monster. Not rated. Free.

Redesign a Book Cover (Gr. 6-12)

Pick a favorite book (or even one you hate) and create a cover that really represents the book inside. Submit your entry to the Children’s desk anytime throughout the month of October. We'll judge the week after and award the winner a prize. Please contact the Children’s Department for additional rules and guidelines.

1,000 BOOKS BEFORE KINDERGARTEN

Join the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten initiative! The objective of this program is to promote reading to newborns, infants and toddlers; as well as, encourage parent and child bonding through reading. Come on by and learn all about engineering and tinker with our Snap Circuits Jr. kits! For children in 1st grade and up. This program made possible through the Union County Grant for Children's Programming. Registration is not required.

Oct 15 @ 10AM - Yoga Time with Miss Lisa (Ages 3-5)

Come join the fun! Your child will not want to miss our fantasy-filled adventure as we travel to Tanzania to meet Lulu, the baby lioness struggling to find her roar. We'll explore how to deal with challenging situations and emotions and how simple breathing techniques can help us feel better. Your child will also learn age-appropriate yoga poses through an exciting and relatable story. Yoga time with Miss Lisa is fun for all and will provide your child with powerful lessons to build confidence, encourage emotional development and enhance sensory awareness...not to mention provide great ideas to share with the entire family! Registration is required and begins October 1.

Develop your STEM skills while having fun with Star Wars! Build your own droid using the engineering design process and code a virtual Star Wars galaxy. Registration is required and is limited. For students in grades 4-8. Registration begins October 9. This program made possible through the Union County Grant for Children's Programming.

Oct 23 @ 5PM - CSI STEM (Gr. 7-12)

You are the detective! Use your problem solving skills and explore forensic science to solve a mystery. Students will have fun engaging in the following activities: hands-on science experiments to analyze fingerprints, DNA and clues using chromatography, fiber analysis, chemistry and toxicology to identify unknown substances and liquids. Registration is required and is limited. For students in grades 7-12. Registration begins October 9. This program made possible through the Union County Grant for Children's Programming.

Oct 30 @ 3:30PM (please note we are meeting on the 5th Tuesday this month) - Lego Club

Come on out and show off your Lego building skills! We provide the Legos; you provide the know-how. All completed projects will be displayed in our glass display case for the month of October. Registration is not required.
