June 19 - July 31 - NPML Summer Reading Program - A Universe of Stories!
We have wonderful incentives to keep all ages reading this summer. Patrons of all ages can track their reading or literacy activities in order to earn prizes or raffle tickets. Bring your reading log in to the volunteers at the Summer Reading desk in the Children's Room throughout the six week program to earn stamps, prizes or raffle tickets to place in our prize baskets. Adults bring their reading logs to the Reference Desk for raffle tickets. Prize winners will be announced on Aug 1.
June 24 @ 1-3:15 PM - Monday Teen Movie: Captain Marvel (Teens)
Living on Earth in 1995, Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) keeps having recurring memories of another life as U.S. Air Force pilot Carol Danvers. With help from Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), Captain Marvel tries to uncover the secrets of her past while harnessing her special superpowers to end the war with the evil Skrulls. Rated PG-13, Action/Adventure.
July 1 @ 1:00-3:30 - Monday Teen Movie: Five Feet Apart (Teens)
Based on the best-selling novel by Rachael Lippincott. Seventeen-year-olds Stella (Haley Lu Richardson) and Will (Cole Sprouse), both suffering from cystic fibrosis, realize the only way to stay alive is to stay apart, but their love for each other is slowly pushing the boundaries of physical and emotional safety. Rated PG-13, Drama.

*July 2 - 31: Community Quilt Exhibit (All Ages)
Part two of the two-part quilt exhibit this summer. A variety of quilts made by New Providence residents are on display in the Conti room and in the reading area. This exhibit was organized by the Friends of the New Providence Memorial Library.
July 2 @ 11 AM- Wii Gaming- All About Mario (Gr. 4-6)
Games and consoles will be provided. Bring your friends and have some fun! Make sure you sign in when you arrive to ensure everyone gets a turn.
July 2 @ 12-2 PM- Teen Wii Gaming- Sports (Teens Grades 6-12)
Join your friends at the library this summer for Wii Sports. No registration necessary, just sign in when you arrive for your turn playing a variety of Wii sports games!
July 8 @ 1:00-3:00 - Monday Teen Movie: Instant Family (Teens)
When Pete (Mark Wahlberg) and Ellie (Rose Byrne) decide to start a family, they stumble into the world of foster care adoption. They hope to take in one small child but when they meet three siblings, including a rebellious 15 year old girl (Isabela Moner), they find themselves speeding from zero to three kids overnight. Now, Pete and Ellie must hilariously try to learn the ropes of instant parenthood in the hopes of becoming a family. Rated PG-13, Comedy.

July 11 @ 1 30 PM - Quilting Story Time and Craft (Children)
Quilt stories in the Conti room followed by a quilting-inspired craft for kids at 2 PM in the Coddington room.
July 11 @ 3 PM and 7 PM: Documentary Film: Common Threads: Stories from the Quilt (Adults)
The powerful story of the first decade of the AIDS epidemic in the US, and how the AIDS quilt came to be unfolded in Washington, DC. Common Threads won the Academy Award for Best Feature Documentary in 1989. Please note that subtitles are not available for this film.
July 15 @ 1:00-3:00 - Monday Teen Movie: Escape Room (Teens)
Six adventurous strangers (Taylor Russell, Logan Miller) travel to a mysterious building to experience the escape room -- a game where players compete to solve a series of puzzles to win $10,000. What starts out as seemingly innocent fun soon turns into a living nightmare as the four men and two women discover each room is an elaborate trap that's part of a sadistic game of life or death. Rated PG-13, Horror.

July 17 @ 6 PM : NP Community Pool Book Club (Adults)
Have you read "Where the Crawdads Sing" by Delia Owens? Pull up a pool chair to join us as we talk about it! We’ll try either for the hill behind the water slide or a shady table in the picnic area. This event may be canceled if there is bad weather - check the library's Facebook page for updates. Pool membership is required for admission. Due to continuing high demand for this book, all of the library's copies of this book have a wait list.
July 18 @ 3-5 PM- Teen Wii Gaming- Super Smash Bros Tournament (Teens Grades 6-12)
The Super Smash Bros Tournament is back! Bring some friends for a Wii gaming afternoon. Sign in for a slot on our bracket and see who is declare the new Super Smash Bros champion!
July 18 @ 3:30 PM- Housel Fun and Fitness: “The Sky’s the Limit!” (K-5)
This interactive show stresses the importance of reading through interactive games, relays and more! Registration is not required.
July 22 @ 1:00-3:30 - Monday Teen Movie: Bohemian Rhapsody (Teens)
A foot-stomping celebration of Queen, their music and their extraordinary lead singer Freddie Mercury (Rami Malek), who defied stereotypes and shattered convention to become one of the most beloved entertainers on the planet. The film traces the meteoric rise of the band through their iconic songs and revolutionary sound, their near-implosion as Mercury's lifestyle spirals out of control, and their triumphant reunion on the eve of Live Aid, where Mercury, facing a life-threatening illness, leads the band in one of the greatest performances in the history of rock music. This documentary by PBS celebrates the art of quilting by featuring selections from the best 100 American quilts of the 20th century, the stories behind their creation and the quilters as they work. 60 minutes, 2001. Please note that subtitles are not available for this film.
*July 26 @ 3 PM- Fun Math Learning with CAMathories (Gr. K-5)
Come learn about CAMathories™! Founded by a group of Cambridge University alumni and faculty, their goal is to make mathematics meaningful and fun to young children. We'll learn about and try some CAMathories games and preview interactive videos that have been developed to help children learn different math concepts. July 29 @ 1:00-3:15 - Monday Teen Movie: Mortal Engines (Teens)
Based on the novel by Philip Reeve. July 31 @ 1 PM- Kids Movie: LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part (All Ages)
The citizens of Bricksburg face a dangerous new threat when LEGO DUPLO invaders from outer space start to wreck everything in their path. The film is rated PG. Children 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
August 3 @ 2 PM - 4 PM - Art Reception (Adults)
A reception for the artist Anne Klingenburg, whose exhibit of scenic views painted in acrylic, “Inspirations 44,” is on view through the end of August. Free, everyone is welcome.
*August 5 @ 11 AM- To the Moon! Story Time and Craft (Gr. Pre-K-1st)

Calling all budding scientists and engineers! Snap Circuits makes learning electronics easy and fun! Come and put together various circuit boards.
*August 15 @ 7 PM - 8 PM : Hummingbirds (Adults)
Wild Birds Unlimited’s education coordinator, Pete Axelrod, will present a program on hummingbirds. This program begins with an investigation of the common attributes of the over 320 distinct species of hummingbird and then delves more deeply into the life and habits of Ruby-throated Hummingbird, the only hummingbird native to New Jersey. In addition, the program explains how to use plants and feeders to attract the Ruby-throated hummingbird to backyards. Free. Come learn from Joe Pickton, New Providence resident, parent, Language Arts teacher, and tutor. Students will learn tips for choosing essay topics, how to make their essay stand out, and basic strategies for writing a cohesive, representative piece that will impress college admissions reviewers. A live-action film adaptation of the disney classic about the beloved baby elephant with large ears who can fly. The film is rated PG.

Paul Groom, a native of Liverpool, will describe the Beatles' rise from obscurity to international stardom. Groom attended the same high school as Paul McCartney and George Harrison, and the same youth club and Sunday school as John Lennon. Free, everyone is welcome. This 90 minute program is made possible by the Friends of the New Providence Memorial Library.
