VIDEO: Exciting Girls' Hoops Season Ends as Rally Falls Short

Lady Highlanders finish season at 19-6.

It was an exhilirating season, one which saw the talented Gov. Livingston girls' basketball team travel the road to the Union County championship game and the state sectional semi-final.

The Lady Highlanders played host to highly-rated Rumson, and the perennial shore power delivered a strong performance in defeating GL  53-34 last night in Berkeley Heights.

Gov. Livingston trailed 12-2 out of the gate, but battled back to cut the deficit to four late in the third quarter, before Rumson rolled off 14 unanswered points to clinch the win.

Leading scorer Alyssa Polimeni led GL with 12 points.

Gov. Livingston finishes with a record of 19-6 under head coach Andy Silvagni. It was quite an improvement for a team that hovered around the .500 mark a year ago.

And while the Highlanders will certainly miss their senior leadership, they do return four of five starters and several key players who logged plenty of time off the bench this season.

It certainly would not be out of the question for this team to be fighting for county and state championships next season.
