• Police: Sussex County man charged after allegedly brandishing imitation firearm (wrnjradio.com) — Newton police have charged a Sparta man after he allegedly displayed what looked like a handgun in a Newton parking lot last summer, an incident only recently reported to authorities. Officers later recovered an air pistol resembling a real Glock and are warning residents that realistic imitation firearms can easily be mistaken for actual weapons, potentially escalating encounters.
   

• Suspect in 1990 murder pleads not guilty after extradition to New Jersey (abc7ny.com) — A man accused in a 1990 Sussex County murder has been extradited and appeared before a judge in Newton, where he pleaded not guilty to murder and kidnapping charges. Investigators say DNA evidence, developed decades later and linked through another case, finally connected him to the victim’s remains found in the Delaware Water Gap.
   

• Sussex animal cruelty suspects face judge, and victim named 'Tiny Tim' (northjersey.com) — A high-profile animal cruelty case tied to abandoned dogs across Sussex County moved forward in a Newton courtroom this week, drawing a large crowd of rescue volunteers. Two Phillipsburg residents appeared for a pre-indictment conference while advocates, including one holding injured chihuahua Tiny Tim, pressed prosecutors to pursue the harshest penalties and presented a petition with thousands of signatures.
