Oakland Firefighters Battle Late-Night House Fire In Heavy Smoke

OAKLAND, NJ — Oakland volunteer firefighters battled a house fire late Monday night, entering the home through heavy smoke and zero-visibility conditions before extinguishing the flames, according to the Oakland Volunteer Fire Department.

Firefighters were dispatched to the residence after receiving a report of a fire, the department said. When crews arrived, they found heavy flames coming from the rear of the house.

Responders entered through the front door and made their way inside. Thick smoke reduced visibility to zero as crews worked to locate and extinguish the fire.

The department did not disclose the address of the home or provide information about possible injuries, damage or what may have caused the fire. No additional details about the incident were immediately available from the department’s post.

Several neighboring fire departments responded to Oakland to provide mutual aid during the emergency. Participating departments included Mahwah, Pompton Lakes, Waldwick, Wayne, Franklin Lakes, Wyckoff and Hawthorne. Oakland EMS also assisted at the scene.
