Oakland Woman Admits Stealing Cash From Mahwah Home: Police

Deanna Franklin, 31, and two men were arrested and charged with drug possession in connection with the theft, police said.

OAKLAND, N.J. — A borough woman was charged with theft after residents reported that cash and jewelry had been stolen from a nearby home last month, said Mahwah Police Chief James N. Batelli.

Residents reported that while having a visiting nurse service come to the Mahwah home last month, jewelry and cash had gone missing, Batelli said.

Police determined who had access to the parts of the house where the missing items were kept and began watching the property, the chief said.

Detective Michael Grassi and Officer Christopher watched the house Sunday and confronted the aide, Deena Franklin, 31, and two associates of hers, Peter Sangorski and Carmen Cosentino who gave her a ride there, who were inside a vehicle, Batelli said.

A man threw bags of cocaine out of a vehicle when police approached it and police found more cocaine, Oxycodone, suboxone, amphetamines, and jewelry believed to be from the house inside the vehicle, Batelli said.

Franklin admitted to stealing cash from the home, but not the jewelry, police said.

Franklin, of Oakland and Cliffside Park, was charged with theft, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.

Sangorski, 36, of Wayne, and Cosention, 35, of Woodland Park, were each charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Sangorski was also charged with hindering apprehension.

All three are due in Bergen County Central Judicial Processing Court Oct. 14 at 8:30 a.m. Batelli said the investigation is ongoing.
