Scammers Try To Get $15,000 From Oakland Company: Police

E-mail was supposedly sent by the company's chief financial officer, police said.

A resident from Pequot Path reported being a victim of ongoing credit card fraud/identity theft Sept. 7 after she discovered multiple cards having unapproved transactions on them and then again after being issued new ones. Officer Michael Catenacci handled the initial investigation. Report taken and matter forwarded to the Detective Bureau.

Detective Edward McDermott investigated a fraud complaint involving a company in the Oakland Industrial Park, police said.

It was reported that they received a fake e-mail that was supposedly sent from the company’s chief financial officer requesting that more than $15,000 be wired to an outside account, police said.

The e-mail was confirmed fraudulent and the money was never wired, police said. Detectives are investigating the incident.
