2 To Be Honored With Ocean City Martin Luther King Awards
John Loeper and Dr. Patrick Kane will be honored at the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Ceremony at the Ocean City Music Pier.
OCEAN CITY, NJ — Two Ocean City residents will be honored for their community service and volunteer work at the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Ceremony.
Held on Jan. 16 at Ocean City Music Pier, this annual award celebrates those who exemplify "the philosophy and ideas of the late Dr. King, who worked to advance civil rights, equal education, labor rights, voter rights and who fought racial inequality through non-violence and civil disobedience," according to city officials.
In 2023, the honorees are John Loeper and Dr. Patrick Kane, Mayor Jay A. Gillian said in his weekly update shared on Dec. 16.

"As president of the Ocean City Historical Museum and chairman of U.S. Life Saving Station 30, Loeper has been indispensable in preserving our history for generations to come," Gillian said.
Kane, current president of the Ocean City Board of Education, "helped guide our school district through the extreme challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, always putting the needs and interests of students first," Gillian said.
