The boy went missing while swimming on an unguarded beach in Wildwood with classmates during a school trip on June 1, authorities said.

WILDWOOD, NJ — The body of a 14-year-old boy who went missing while swimming in Wildwood has been recovered, Wildwood police said.

The boy, who has been identified by family as Davoris Carter, went missing June 1 while on a class trip, when a group of swimmers were reported to be in distress, police said.

His body was found Tuesday just off the beach at the U.S. Coast Guard Training Center in Cape May, Wildwood police said. He was recovered by a joint effort of the Coast Guard, New Jersey State Police and Cape May Police.

Davoris's body was turned over to the medical examiner's office, and positively identified as the missing boy and his family notified, police said.

His grandmother, Kenya Pippen, told 6abc Action News he was on a class trip with fellow special needs students. Each of the students has a one-on-one aide due to being special needs, she told the outlet.

She said that his swim trunks were found on the beach and that he had entered the water fully clothed.

"Our sincere condolences are with the juvenile victim’s friends and family during this very difficult time," Wildwood police said. "We also want to thank all the first responders who assisted with not only the initial rescue operations, but that of the recovery efforts."

Davoris is one of four swimmers who have drowned at the Jersey Shore in the ocean since mid-May. Two of them remain missing: a 19-year-old man who was boogie boarding in Ocean City in May and was knocked off by a wave, and a 23-year-old Palmyra man who drowned in Seaside Park on June 5.

A 28-year-old Lacey man died after he was pulled from a rip current in Ship Bottom unconscious and not breathing, and resuscitation efforts failed, authorities said.
