Bart Russell Announces Bid for Fourth Ward Council Seat in Ocean City

Ocean City, NJ -- Bart Russell announced his candidacy for the Fourth Ward Seat on Ocean City Council Wednesday morning.

Fourth Ward Councilman Peter Guinosso is up for re-election, but has not yet said if he intends to run.

The deadline for a candidate to file a petition to run in the May 10 non-partisan elections is March 7. The last day to register to vote is April 19.

Russell, a Vietnam War veteran, said that if elected, he will focus on taxes, flooding and dredging. He earned a Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts while serving in Vietnam between 1966 and 1969.

He is a 1964 graduate of Ocean City High School, and a former school board member. He is also a former school board member in Lower Township and was vice president of the Cape May County School Board. He taught at Cape May Tech for 10 years.

He’s operated businesses in Ocean City, Wildwood and Snug Harbor.

Russell also ran for the Fourth Ward Seat in 2008 and 2012.

First Ward Councilman Michael DeVlieger, Second Ward Councilman Antwan McClellan and Third Ward Councilman Anthony Wilson are also up for re-election.

Councilwoman Karen Bergman has already announced her intention to run in the special election for the council seat she was appointed to in October.
