Is this a "blighted area"? Republican Gov. Chris Christie and top Democrats in Senate, Assembly say it is.

State Senate President Steve Sweeney and Assembly Leader Vince Prieto both propose new tax law that declares all 8 AC casinos as "blighted"!

Atlantic County Democrats Senator Jim Whelan and Assemblyman Vince Mazzeo are with them. So is Atlantic County Republican Assemblyman Chris Brown. Why? Article 8 of NJ State Constitution requires that all real estate be assessed by the same method, and taxed equally. However, it allows tax breaks for veterans, farmers, charities, senior/disabled citizens, and properties in "blighted areas".

These politicians are making a mockery of NJ Constitution so they can give big tax breaks to all 8 Atlantic City casinos or next 10 years. Because these casinos pay 50% of Atlantic City taxes, and 25% of county taxes, every other business and home owner in Atlantic County will pay a lot more if they get away with this.

This would allow politicians all over NJ to reward their biggest campaign donors with big tax breaks just by declaring their properties as being "blighted". Everyone else will pay more.

Assemblyman Mazzeo recently admitted that this proposed law was written by NJ Casino Association lobbyists. Public records show "Optimus Partners" are chief lobbyists for NJ Casino Association. One partner is Phil Norcross, brother of Camden County Democrat power broker George Norcross. The other is Jeff Michaels, a friend of Republican Governor Chris Christie--and brother of NJ and NY Port Authority Police Lieutenant "Chip" Michaels whose emails connected him to traffic shutdown on George Washington Bridge.
