Boardwalk Art Show Returns to Ocean City This Weekend

More than 60 artists will participate in the 52nd annual edition Aug. 1-3.

Artists from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New York, Maryland, Virginia and Florida will converge on Ocean City this weekend for the Boardwalk Art Show.

The 52nd annual event takes place Aug. 1-3 from 8th to 11th streets on the boards. More than 60 artists will participate, according to Ocean City Public Relations Director Mark Soifer.

The show was started by Dr. Marcia Smith, Ocean City’s first female doctor, an honors graduate of the University of Pennsylvania. She helped fund the event.

She and artist-businessman James F. Penland worked with Mayor B. Thomas Waldman to present the colorful exhibition.

The success of the initial shows led to establishment of the Ocean City Arts Center.

Waldman also helped to establish the Ocean City Historical Museum and provided the first homes for both the Museum and Arts Center, at a former school House on Wesley Avenue.

The show has come to be known as a place where visitors can acquire excellent art at reasonable prices.

The show runs from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Sunday.
