Boy Scout Troop Master in Cape May County Charged With Sexually Assaulting Children

Frank Thomson was charged with the assaults of two boys in separate incidents.

A Troop Master with the West Cape May Boy Scouts has been charged with the sexual assaults of two children in separate incidents, Cape May County Prosecutor Robert L. Taylor and Cape May City Police Department Captain Robert Sheehan said on Thursday.

Frank “Sandy” Thomson, 68, of Cape May, was charged with aggravated sexual contact luring/enticing a child and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. Thomson was also the treasurer at the Corinthian Yacht Club in the City of Cape May.

A person police described as a “concerned citizen” reported suspicious activity between Thomson and an 11-year-old boy on July 16.

A subsequent joint investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the Cape May City Police allegedly revealed that Thomson had been grooming the boy by buying him expensive gifts.

The investigation also allegedly revealed Thomson had sexually assaulted another boy several years ago.

Thomson was arrested on July 27 and charged with luring/enticing a child and endangering the welfare of a child in the case of the 11-year-old.

The following day, Thomson was charged with aggravated sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child in the other case.

He is currently lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Center in lieu of $175,000 full cash bail.
