A patient attempted to shoot and kill himself inside a South Jersey emergency room on Wednesday, officials said.

The 72-year-old man pulled out a gun and shot himself in the head while at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center on Haddon Avenue in Camden around 8:10 a.m., according to NBC10 Philadelphia.

Doctors listed the man in critical condition; no staff, patients or visitors were in danger, the hospital told the station. The Emergency Department remained open while the hospital alerted patients and visitors of the incident.

The man was in an emergency room treatment space where patients are separated by curtains, and he was not identified. It was the second such incident at the hospital in recent years, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Three years ago, a 71-year-old man shot and killed himself after walking into a restroom of the emergency room waiting area.
