Dead Humpback Whale Washes Up In Cape May County
The whale was found Sunday under a dock at an abandoned residence in North Wildwood, New Jersey State Police said.
NORTH WILDWOOD, NJ — A dead whale washed up near a Cape May County marina Sunday morning.
New Jersey State Police troopers from the Marine Services Bureau North Wildwood Station responded to a report of a dead whale in the Hereford Inlet, police said.
The whale was under the dock of an abandoned residence near Grassy Sound Marina, police said. It had been dead for some time and a terrapin was feasting on it, Grassy Sound Marina posted on Facebook. According to Grassy Sound Marina, the whale was a 25-foot juvenile humpback.

Members of the Marine Mammal Stranding Center determined that the whale should be removed to make the area safe for boaters. The New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife removed the whale Sunday evening.
