Donations Pour In For Ocean City Women Displaced By House Fire

Five women lost "everything" when a two-alarm fire swept through their duplex. The community has stepped in to help.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — Donations are pouring in for the five women displaced by a two-alarm fire that swept through their duplex in Ocean City over the weekend.

Ocean City fire officials said they were called to a residence in the area of 16th and West Avenue when the blaze broke out shortly before 8:30 a.m. on Saturday. Read more: 2-Alarm Fire Engulfs Ocean City Duplex, Firefighter Rescued

The five women who lived in the duplex lost "everything" in the fire, according to a GoFundMe launched to help get them back on their feet. The fundraiser, which is at more than $5,000 as of Monday morning, will split the money evenly between the women.

Organizer Emily Garber said in an update that "the women are stunned at how many people who they’ve never met before care about them!"

She shared in the public Facebook group "Ocean City NJ 08226" that three carloads of donations were collected, so there's no need for clothing donations at the moment, but toiletries are appreciated.

The GoFundMe initially had a goal of $2,000, but this was quickly surpassed. The goal is now $7,000.
