Dredge Off Corson's Inlet Pumping Sand to Strathmere
A $9 million beach replenishment project for Strathmere and Sea Isle City is underway.
A massive dredger named the E.W. Ellefsen is in place near Corson's Inlet and expected to begin work on a $9 million beach replenishment project for Strathmere and Sea Isle City in January.
The state (because part of Corson's Inlet State Park is in Strathmere), Upper Township (Strathmere) and Sea Isle City are sharing the cost of the project and expecting a 75 percent reimbursement from the Federal Emergency Management Agency because the erosion was caused by November 2009 storm damage.
The dredge will move south as work continues through January and February.
