End Date for Southend Beach Replenishment Project Pushed Back as Dredge Undergoes Repairs

The Liberty Island hopper dredge needs a new engine, and will be out of commission for at least six weeks, the Ocean City Gazette reports.
As a result, the estimated completion date for the southend beach replenishment project is now early September, according to the report.
It had been on target to be completed by July 15.

The dredge was transported to Virginia to undergo repairs over the weekend. Prior to that, the project was 39 percent complete.

Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company of Oak Brook, Illinois, is handling the project for $57.6 million. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is overseeing the project.
