Flooding, Snow Struck Ocean City During Major Nor'easter

While most of the state saw snow during Wednesday's nor'easter, rain was expected for the Jersey Shore area. And while most of the snow was up north, there was some accumulation recorded along the Jersey Shore. In addition to Ocean City, Seaville saw three inches of snow and Atlantic City saw about two inches. A video posted on Facebook depicted whiteout conditions on Wednesday. As with most storms, flooding continued to be the biggest problem in Ocean City, though. Flooding became an issue around high tide on Wednesday. Water didn't drain properly, and areas that typically don't flood found themselves under water.

While police officers and firefighters were dispatched to help children at the Intermediate School and the Primary School during dismissal time, residents near one bus stop complained that the flooding was so deep, the bus had to turn around.

Police also helped two drivers who became stranded after driving into high waters. They also monitored traffic flow after the 34th Street Bridge traffic light malfunctioned. All westbound traffic detoured to Ninth St. and eastbound traffic was allowed to flow, according to Ocean City Police Capt. Steve Ang.

One westbound lane of the 9th Street Bridge had to be closed after a minor accident in which a New Jersey Transit bus went sideways due to road conditions, but the eastbound lane remained open. Wires down in area of Russ Chattin Bridge heading into Strathmere.

All incidents were resolved by 5 p.m. Wednesday

Outages were at a minimum, and there were no lingering power outages in Cape May County on Thursday, even though the rest of the state continued to deal with them.

Below are some images from Wednesday's flooding, provided by Janice Comby. The area depicted is 30th Street and Haven Avenue.
