Heroin Confirmed In Kid's Candy Bag: Cape May County Prosecutor

A bag of heroin was found in a child's bag after a Trunk or Treat event in Middle Township.

MIDDLE TOWNSHIP, NJ — County officials confirmed that a child received heroin in his or her Halloween bag Friday at a Trunk or Treat event in Middle Township. Laboratory analysis indicated the substance tested positive for heroin, according to the Cape May County Prosecutor's Office.

There was only one reported incident at the event, which took place at the Family Success Center in Rio Grande. It is unclear how the bag of heroin got in the child's bag.

Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland and Chief of County Detective Paul S. Skill urged the public to check Halloween candy their children bring home. Exercise caution with any suspicious-looking or unfamiliar packaging and baggies, officials said.
