King and Queen of Plop Crowned in Ocean City

Contestants (dramatically) fall to welcome fall in a goofy end-of-season event.

After several rounds of sand-to-sand combat (and several more rounds of puns from event organizer Mark Soifer), a new King and Queen of Plop were crowned on the beach next to the Ocean City Music Pier on Friday morning.

"The purpose of this event is to welcome the fall season to Ocean City," said Soifer, Ocean City's public relations director.

The winners were chosen for their talents in ... falling.

The contest, one in a year-long series of free family events in Ocean City, awarded trophies to the male and female with the most dramatic fall to the sand.

In the end, the winners were: Julia Albertson, 11, of Vineland (with a tumbling run/collapse); and Colin McCusker, 10, of Newtown Square, PA (with an is-he-dead-yet, series of spasms).
