Knife Incident On N.J. Elementary School Bus: Injury Reported

N.J. elementary school officials were confronted with a school bus knife incident in which an injury was reported, officials said.

N.J. elementary school officials were confronted with a school bus knife incident last week in which at least one student was injured, officials said.

The principal wrote a letter on Feb. 7 to parents at the school - which has kids from preschool through first grade - to inform them "of an incident that occurred on your child’s bus this morning."

"Upon arrival to school, we were made aware that one of the students had brought a knife on the bus," wrote Daniel Cartwright, principal of Joseph C. Shaner Memorial Elementary School in Mays Landing.

"Several children on Bus SR13 were involved in this incident and an injury was reported," said Cartwright.

Cartwright said an investigation is ongoing, and school officials were prepared to meet with the children of SR13 to "review this matter, our school’s expectations for behavior on the school bus, and that student safety is our
highest priority."
