Make Your Own Drinks With Ocean City's Own FoolProof Mixers

OCEAN CITY, NJ — Just because Ocean City is a dry town doesn't mean there's no alcohol drinking going on.

This is something many are aware of, including local Michael Larkin. Since there's no bars around to enjoy a good cocktail, he created his own company so residents and visitors alike can create their own bar-worthy drinks from the comfort of their own home.

The 24-year-old started FoolProof Mixers during lockdown in 2020, continuing to make syrups and recipes as he went into his senior year at Boston College. His friends tried the initial flavors and Larkin started selling them at the Margate Farmers Market. It was a hit.

"People kept coming back," Larkin told Patch.

He wanted to get his product onto shelves, and through working with the Rutgers University Food Innovation Center, was able to create a shelf-stable formula that you can now purchase at the Super Liquors across the 34th Street bridge or via the FoolProof Mixers website.

FoolProof Mixers has three flavors available - Pineapple Habanero, Watermelon Mint Mojito and Jersey Peach Smash, their take on a "true Jersey cocktail," Larkin said.

And if you don't drink, you can still enjoy the mixers in a mocktail. Just add club soda and you'll have a refreshing treat, Larkin said.

The mixers are made from "real ingredients," Larkin said - using organic agave and no preservatives or artificial flavors.

Since the company is still young, you can only get those three flavors. But Larkin hopes to continue growing and add more with feedback from customers.
