Hundreds of witnesses, including about 50 from New Jersey, reported seeing a meteor streak across the Northeast sky late Wednesday night. The American Meteor Society said 256 reported seeing the fireball shortly after 11 p.m.

The reports came from all over New Jersey, from Bergen County to Cape May County. Most said it was visible for just two or three seconds. Witnesses spanned from Maine to North Carolina.

The summer meteor showers are revving up. The Delta Aquarid meteor shower is in full effect, though tough to catch up north. The highly anticipated Perseid meteor shower also just started. The two showers overlap in early August.
