Middle Township Police Handle Unexploded Device
The ordinance was allegedly found by a resident's son while fishing. It was inert.

Middle Township Police handled an unexploded device on Tuesday afternoon.
On Tuesday afternoon at 3:46 p.m., a resident walked into the police lobby to turn in unexploded ordinance, police said.
Officers immediately removed it from the station. Buildings and residential homes along Mechanic Street were evacuated as a precaution.
Atlantic City Police Department’s Bomb Squad responded and evaluated the ordinance. They determined the ordinance was a World War II era marking round.

The round would have had an explosive tip to mark targets. The round was found to be inert and was safely removed by A.C.P.D. Bomb Technicians.
The resident said the ordinance was found by her son while fishing.
Ordinance is commonly found by commercial fisherman, or can wash up on shore.

Police advise anyone who finds what looks like unexploded military ordinance, they should not touch the ordinance. It can be a hazard.
Residents should call 9-1-1 to properly dispose of the ordinance.
The ordinance can still be live even after long periods of time.
Even if it is found underwater, as long as the explosive has not gotten wet, police said.
