Miss Ocean City/Mary Poppins/Wacky Wednesday: What's Happening In Ocean City Next Week?

The Baby Parade, Pamper Scamper and Summer of Love Concert are also on tap.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — August is in full swing, and there's plenty to do in Ocean City. In addition to trips to the beach and the Ocean City Boardwalk, the following is a list of fun things happening on the island next week, courtesy Public Information Officer Doug Bergen.

Glen Burtnik's Summer Of Love Concert (Aug. 7): Glen Burtnik’s The Summer of Love Concert celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Summer of Love, 1967. The show focuses on musical highlights of that year (as well as great songs from 1968 and 1969), which unofficially kicked off with the release of The Beatles’ “Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band.” Many other seminal rock albums by artists like The Doors, Jefferson Airplane, The Rolling Stones, Procol Harum, The Jimi Hendrix Experience and others also released album during this memorable year. Pamper Scamper (Aug. 8): Annual baby crawling race. Registration is free and begins at 8:30 a.m. Contest begins at 9 a.m. at the Sixth Street Beach. For babies up to 15 months. Sponsored by Bowfish Kids. For more information, call 609-399-6111.

“Mary Poppins” (Aug. 8 to 11): The City of Ocean City, Ocean City POPS, and the Ocean City Theatre Company present the “practically perfect” Disney musical. Based on the books by P.L. Travers and the classic Walt Disney film, Disney and Cameron Mackintosh's "Mary Poppins" delighted Broadway audiences for more than 2,500 performances and received nominations for seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Show times are 7:30 p.m. Aug. 8, 9 and 11, with a 2 p.m. matinee on Aug. 10. All shows take place at the Hughes Performing Arts Center (beach block of Sixth Street). Ticket prices are $30 for adults, $25 for kids (12 years and under), and $25 for groups of 20 or more. Wacky Wednesday (Aug. 9): Use your creativity to shape and sculpt a cookie into your very own unique masterpiece. Contest is free. Limited to 150 participants. Open to all ages. Start time: 10:30 a.m. at the Music Pier, Moorlyn Terrace and Boardwalk. For more information, call 609-399-6111.

Disney Junior's Choo-Choo Soul “With Genevieve!” (Aug. 10): Come see Genevieve Goings and Constantine “DC” Abramson, the stars of Disney Junior’s “Choo-Choo Soul” at the Ocean City Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. They began as a hip-hop/soul children’s album of music before the brand was acquired by Disney. In the show, Genevieve is a soulful and hip singing train conductor and DC is a beat-boxing, break-dancing engineer who will engage children in sing-alongs, dance routines and lots of crowd participation. 108th Annual Baby Parade (Aug. 10): One of the oldest baby parades in the country. Parade begins at 5 p.m. and travels the boardwalk from Sixth Street to 12th Street with floats and bands continuing to 14th Street. For more information, call 609-399-6111.

Boys and Girls Fishing Tournament (Aug. 12): Free event for boys and girls 8 to 16 years old. North end beach at Ocean City–Longport Bridge. Registration is 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Tournament is 10 a.m. to noon. Prizes and trophies awarded. Rain date: August 19. Co-sponsored by Ocean City Fishing Club and City of Ocean City. Miss Ocean City Pageant (Aug. 12): The City of Ocean City will host the 49th annual Miss Ocean City Pageant at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12. The pageant will be held at the Ocean City Music Pier, Moorlyn Terrace and the Boardwalk. Twelve contestants will compete in interview, talent, evening gown and swimsuit portions, with the hopes to become the next Miss Ocean City. Contestants vying for the 2018 title include Sophia Terry, Brielle Nicole Hammerstein, Pamela Traflet, Shannon Cattie, Grace Webber, Alexa Rosen, Megan Jessica Keenan, Madison Leigh Kennelly, Nora Sheppard Faverzani, Abigail Waid, Emily Aita, Alanna Palombo. All tickets are $15 and are now on sale at oceancityvacation.com/boxoffice, at all City Welcome Centers or by calling 609-399-6111.
