The last green buoy (#9) coming into Ocean City has been missing all season. Shifting sand has made the area shallower compared with prior years. This has made this inlet more treacherous for larger power and sailboats allowing many more boats to run aground. The Coast Guardsman I spoke with by phone last month seemed unsure who was responsible to replace it. The above "cigarette" type boat came screaming past us on the way in, but then ran aground. Despite the rather strong currents, several people were seen in the knee deep water ( ~ 100 yards out from the beach ) attempting to push it free. Hopefully this dangerous problem will be remedied.
Additionally, the G/E bell buoy marking the outer channel has been missing all season. It appears that the Coast Guard should further evaluate the situation.
