Movie-Themed Smoothie Shop To Open Ocean City Location

OCEAN CITY, NJ — Just in time for summer, Ocean City residents and vacationers will be able to enjoy fresh smoothies with a Hollywood twist when Groovy Smoovies opens.

Groovy Smoovies, based in Haddonfield, is opening their second location in downtown Ocean City, according to a press release.

The new shop will be located in downtown Ocean City on the 600 block of East 8th Street, right below the landmark Blue Water Inn and across the parking lot from the Varsity Inn.

The smoothie shop offers a variety of handcrafted, movie-themed drinks like "the Philly Wonka" and "West Side Smorey," along with Hollywood decor like an old-fashioned staffed home box office ticket booth.

And founder and owner Antonne Jones says that all guests get the VIP experience.

"We're very thankful and fortunate to have such a diverse group of customers; we will treat everyone like celebrities," Jones said. "In fact, we don’t see them as customers we see them as family and friends."

Renovations for the space have already begun. Jones said he hopes to start hiring in April, with a soft launch in May. The majority of past and present Groovy Smoovies employees have been high school students, and he hopes to continue that with the new location.

"Employing local high school students has been of mutual benefit," Jones said. "For us, they help with maintaining a fun and lively atmosphere as well as keeping us in the loop with what's going on in the community which allows us to be supportive in traditional and sometime nontraditional ways. For them, a lot of times it's their first jobs so obviously they'll get work experience and earn money but also learn the importance of teamwork and gain leadership skills."

Groovy Smoovies recently launched a national franchise program in partnership with The Stanwood Group and plans to open more beach locations in the upcoming years.
