Ocean City Addresses A New Beach Ban Idea: Thongs
Councilman Michael DeVlieger broached the idea during the July 26 council meeting.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — It might be what guys talk about, but there's at least one Ocean City resident who disagrees with Sisqo about thongs being among the finer things in life.
During a recent council meeting, Ocean City Councilman Michael DeVlieger relayed the concerns of one of his constituents over the appearance of thongs on the beach.
“I had someone very sincerely write me an email regarding thongs on the beach,” DeVlieger said. “The individual was offended by thongs on the beach and was asking we create some sort of legislation to make it more modest. I wrestle with the thought of that."

"I mean, it’s America, and not everyone’s going to agree with everyone else’s tastes, but it was asked of me, so I’m putting it out there.”
DeVlieger said he’s gotten a few chuckles, but also that there are people who say there are too many thongs on the beach. He didn’t get much response from anybody at the meeting other than Councilman Keith Hartzell, who said, “I’m 62. We don’t even think about that.”

DeVlieger told nj.com there has been no more outcry about the idea so it would most likely not be an issue moving forward, and most likely won't be considered.
Ocean City is a historically conservative community. Ocean City has a long history of banning alcohol on the island. It has also voiced its opposition to having marijuana dispensaries in the family-friendly resort.
