Ocean City To Allow More Beach Activities Saturday
Following coronavirus closures, Ocean City reopened its beaches last week but only allowed for certain activities.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — Ocean City will allow more typical beach activities beginning Saturday.
The City reopened its beaches last weekend for active recreation, such as walking, running, surfing, exercising and fishing. But officials also prohibited certain actions such as sunbathing, sitting in chairs or lying on towels and swimming.
Ocean City updated its coronavirus information page to reflect the update for Saturday. The boardwalk, which reopened last weekend, can be used for walking, running, bicycling and access to open businesses.

Officials reminded the public to respect social-distancing guidelines and avoid "social gathering."

Cape May County towns have since made a collective effort to gradually reopen attractions such as beaches and boardwalks. Ocean City reopened the beaches and boardwalk last weekend for certain activities.

Governor Phil Murphy has allowed municipalities to determine closures at beaches they control. But Murphy said he plans to have guidelines for reopening beaches by Friday. Read more: Gov. Murphy: 'Hard Dates' Coming For NJ Coronavirus Reopening
The Cape May County Health Department has reported 12 active cases and 20 people cleared off quarantine in Ocean City as of Thursday morning. No coronavirus deaths have been reported in Ocean City.
