Jay Gillian Wins Re-Election For Mayor: Ocean City Results
Mayor Jay Gillian ran for re-election against former councilman John Flood. Three council members ran unopposed.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — Ocean City Mayor Jay Gillian will have four more years in office, according to unofficial results posted on the city's website Tuesday night.
Gillian defeated former councilman John Flood by a vote count of 2,023 to 1,162. Results remain unofficial until certified by the municipal clerk.
According to the city's website, all districts were reporting as of 9 p.m. Totals include vote by mail ballots. There were no provisional ballots.

There were 14 write-in votes in the mayor's race, according to the county website, which had Gillian's winning percentage at just over 63 percent of the vote.
Gillian collected more votes in each ward. In the First Ward, Gillian had 585 votes to Flood's 327. In the Second Ward, Gillian had 363 votes to Flood's 197. In the Third Ward, where Flood was a councilman from 1988 through 1996, Gillian won by a total of 583 to 308. In the Fourth Ward, Gillian had 492 votes, while Flood had 330 votes.

The unofficial victory gives Gillian his third term in office. He was first elected in 2010, and won re-election in 2014. The two candidates sparred over the 6th Street Restroom Project, whether or not to debate and Flood's involvement in a pair of lawsuits against the city during this election cycle.
Council President Peter Madden, Councilman Keith Hartzell and Councilwoman Karen Bergman all ran for re-election unopposed.
Hartzell had the most votes of the three incumbents, with 2,431. Bergman had 2,362 votes, followed by Madden with 2,335 votes. The unofficial votes give each council person another four-year term. There were 133 write-in votes in the council races, according to the county website.
Hartzell had 692 votes in the First Ward, 450 votes in the Second Ward, 667 votes in the Third Ward and 622 votes in the Fourth Ward.
Bergman had 681 votes in the First Ward, 441 votes in the Second Ward, 655 votes in the Third Ward and 585 votes in the Fourth Ward.
Madden had 682 votes in the First Ward, 423 in the Second Ward, 639 votes in the Third Ward and 591 votes in the Fourth Ward.
There are 9,226 registered voters in Ocean City. Voter turnout was about 33 percent, according to the county website. There were just shy over 3,200 total votes in the mayor's race. There were about 7,000 votes cast in the council race.
