Ocean City Fire Captain Awarded For Off-Duty Rescue

OCFD Capt. Jason Boyle won an award for his 2021 off-duty rescue of a family from a burning building in Seaville.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — An Ocean City Fire Department captain has won an award for his off-duty rescue of a family from a burning building in 2021, according to the Ocean City Firefighters Association.

Capt. Jason Boyle received the Fire Meritorious Award at the recent Professional Firefighters Association of New Jersey (PFANJ) Valor Awards.

On April 30, 2021, while off-duty, Boyle noticed a house engulfed in flames in the Seaville section of Upper Township.

Boyle was "was instrumental in leading bystanders with removing a mother and her 3 children from a second floor window after he was unable to make entry or find any other means of safe egress," the Ocean City Firefighters Association said.

Thanks to Boyle's "rapid intervention," all occupants got out safely, with no injuries.
