OCHS Boys, Girls Basketball To Play For Trophies In Wildwood

The boys and girls both advanced at the Boardwalk Classic on Tuesday.

WILDWOOD, NJ — The Ocean City High School boys and girls basketball teams will each play for a trophy at the the Boardwalk Basketball Classic at the Wildwoods Convention Center on Wednesday.

The girls advanced to the final of the GWITDA Bracket with a 56-33 win over Hatboro Horsham of Pennsylvania in the opening game of the tournament on Tuesday.

Emma Finnegan lead the way with 15 points, three rebounds and two assists. Danielle Donoghue had 10 points, seven rebounds and three assists, and Killie Wyers had 10 points, four rebounds and four assists in the win. Wyers hit a three-pointer with just over six minutes left in the first half to give Ocean City its first points of the game, and the Red Raiders never looked back.

Ocean City will play in the final at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday night against Methacton, of Pennsylvania. Methacton defeated Strath Haven, 71-23, on Tuesday. Hatboro Horsham will play Strath Haven in the consolation game earlier in the day.

The boys advanced to the final of the Ray Martin Memorial Bracket with a 61-45 win over Conrad Sciences of Delaware on Tuesday.

Jacob McQuarrie lead the way with 19 points, two rebounds and an assist. Issac Robertson had 14 points, three rebounds and an assist in the win. Luke Varallo had 14 points, three rebounds and an assist.

The game was close, and the teams traded the lead throughout the first quarter. Ocean City took the lead for good on a shot by McQuarrie with 3:23 left in the first quarter. Conrad Sciences pulled to within one point at 12-11 early in the second quarter, but the Red Raiders outscored Conrad Sciences 18-12 the rest of the half and pulled away in the third and fourth quarters.

Darrell Moses led Conrad Sciences with 11 points, six rebounds and an assist. To view the full box score, visit bbclassic.com.

Ocean City will play in the final at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday night against Millville, a 61-57 winner over Lower Moreland on Tuesday. Conrad Sciences will play Lower Moreland in the consolation game earlier in the day.

The boys are now 2-0 at this year's Boardwalk Classic. On Saturday, the Red Raiders defeated Burlington City, 56-50, in a Crest Savings Bank Battle of the Boards showcase game.

The six-day tournament, which raises college scholarship money for graduating seniors for the two high schools that host the tournament, Wildwood and Wildwood Catholic. The largest high school co-ed basketball tournament in the country has raised over $300,000 in scholarship money since its inception in 1998.
