Ocean City Historical Museum to Celebrate Coast Guard's Birthday
The U.S. Coast Guard was formed when Congress merged the Life Saving Service and the Revenue Cutter Service on January 28, 1915.
The Ocean City Historical Museum is celebrating the U.S. Coast Guard’s birthday.
The museum celebrates the 100th anniversary of the creation of the U.S. Coast Guard with a special presentation on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2 pm. at the museum located in the Community Center, 1735 Simpson Avenue.
The U.S. Coast Guard was formed when Congress merged the Life Saving Service and the Revenue Cutter Service on January 28, 1915. This year’s Ocean City Beach Tag also commemorates this event.

Ocean City historian Fred Miller and Ocean City Life Saving Station No. 30 President John Loeper will trace the Coast Guard from its founding to its present-day expanded missions.
Miller and Loeper will be discussing the 1915 event and the history of the Life Saving Service, which dates back to 1871, when the island was still known only as Peck’s Beach.

This is a free event. Any donations will be shared between the Museum and the Lifesaving Station No. 30. Seating is limited.
Museum hours: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday 10:00am-4:00pm, extended hours Thursday 10:00am – 7:00pm.
