Ocean City Man Arrested After 3-Month Narcotics Investigation

OCEAN CITY, NJ β€” An 18-year-old Ocean City man has been arrested for hashish throughout the county, Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland and Acting Chief, Captain John J. Prettyman announced Wednesday morning.

William Baker was arrested on Friday, June 22, following a three-month investigation into the sale of eatable items that contain marijuana throughout Cape May County, authorities said. Ocean City police arrested Baker without incident.

He was charged with third-degree distribution of hashish over five grams, second-degree distribution of hashish in a public place, fourth-degree possession of hashish, and wandering to sell CDS, a disorderly persons offense.

Baker was subsequently placed on a warrant and lodged at the Cape May County Correctional Center pending Court proceedings.

Anyone convicted of a second-degree crime can be sentenced to 5 to 10 years in New Jersey State Prison. Third-degree crimes can carry a sentence of 3 to 5 years. A person convicted of a fourth-degree crime can be sentenced to up to 18 months in State Prison.

Sutherland said his office will continue to target anyone selling illegal controlled dangerous substances. He continues to urge the citizens of Cape May County to report any information regarding illegal drug activity or any criminal activity within community.
