Ocean City Man Nominated For County Prosecutor

Gov. Chris Christie nominated Jeffrey H. Sutherland to become the next Cape May County Prosecutor. The nomination awaits Senate approval.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — An Ocean City man has been nominated to fill the role of Cape May County Prosecutor. Gov. Chris Christie has appointed Jeffrey H. Sutherland to be the permanent replacement for Robert L. Taylor. The appointment will go before the New Jersey State Senate for approval.

Taylor retired in September when he turned 70, the maximum age allowed for the position. Prosecutors typically serve five-year terms. Robert W. Johnson was subsequently named Acting Cape May County Prosecutor.

Taylor has since filed a whistleblower lawsuit claiming the county has downplayed the seriousness of the opioid epidemic and claiming it has retaliated against him for his failure to participate in an investigation he says it opened because it had a vendetta.
