Ocean City School Board Approves Hybrid Reopening Plan
Students will physically attend school two days per week unless their family chooses the full-time virtual option.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — The Ocean City Board of Education approved the school district's reopening proposal Wednesday. The plan calls for physically attend school two days per week unless their family chooses the full-time virtual option.
Superintendent Dr. Kathleen Taylor released an outline of the plan last week. Students whose families opt for in-person learning will get separated into two groups — Cohorts O and C. Each cohort will attend school two days a week and learn online three days each week.
The district surveyed parents and guardians to determine whether they want their child to physically attend school at least part of the time. The results will determine the distribution of students into Cohort O or C. But most will get placed based on last name so that students in the same family have the same schedules.

“The district’s goal is to transition back to full in-person teaching and learning as soon as it is safe to do so," Taylor said in a statement. "But we believe opening with a hybrid model is how we can best comply with the current health guidelines aimed at slowing and preventing the spread of COVID-19."

Students will enter and exit each building at one set of doors, and visitors aren't allowed for the time being. Family members can't leave their vehicles when picking up or dropping off students.
Schools will follow a half-day schedule for the first week of school — Sept. 8-11 — before beginning a full-day schedule Sept. 14.
