White Powder, Straws Found In NJ Man's Car After Toddler Overdosed: Affidavit

WILDWOOD, NJ — The father of a 2-year-old boy who overdosed on cocaine had narcotics and a bag of a "white powdery substance" in his car, according to police documents obtained by Patch.

Alexander T. Moles, a 39-year-old Ringwood resident, was staying in a Wildwood Airbnb with a woman and children, according to the documents. Moles is a Paterson firefighter and has been suspended from his job, according to the Daily Record.

The boy's mother was showering and Moles was in charge of looking after the children, police said.

When she got out of the shower, she noticed the toddler didn't look like himself and seemed "sleepy," she told authorities.

Moles started driving the boy to the hospital and traveled "a couple blocks away" before calling the woman to ask if it was okay if the boy fell asleep, documents said.

The toddler's mother said not to let the boy fall asleep and called 911, according to documents.

The toddler was hospitalized and given two doses of Narcan, testing positive for cocaine, authorities said.

Moles told police he thought the boy had ingested his "pain killers," authorities said.

A court-authorized search warrant of Moles' vehicle found several packs of "tapentadol hydrochloride," a narcotic, a small plastic bag containing a "powdery white substance" and several short plastic straws, authorities said.

Moles has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child, possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of prescription legend drugs.
