OCTC To Perform 'Fiddler On The Roof' As Part Of 10th Anniversary Celebration

OCEAN CITY, NJ — The Greater Ocean City Theatre Company is joining with the Ocean City Pops and the city to present the nine-time Tony Award winning show, “Fiddler on the Roof,” as part of its 10th anniversary celebration, beginning on Tuesday, July 11. The performance will be staged at the Bill and Nancy Hughes Performing Arts Center, 6th and Atlantic avenues.

There will be three evening performances, on July 11, 12 and 14, 7:30 p.m. There will also be a matinee at 2 p.m. on July 13. “Fiddler on the Roof” is the brainchild of Broadway legends, Jerome Robbins and Harold Prince; songwriters, Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick; and bookwriter, Joseph Stein. The show debuted in 1964.

Chad Parsons directs the Greater Ocean City Theatre Company’s production, with music direction by Jonathan Kreamer and choreography by Dann Dunn. A professional cast of musical theatre performers from NYC will share their talents with the incredible sounds of the Ocean City Pops Orchestra.

Set in the little village of Anatevka, the story centers on Tevye, a poor milkman, and his five daughters. With the help of a colorful and tight-knit Jewish community, Tevye tries to protect his daughters and instill them with traditional values in the face of changing social mores and the growing anti-Semitism of Czarist Russia.

Rich in historical and ethnic detail, “Fiddler on the Roof's” universal theme of tradition cuts across barriers of race, class, nationality and religion. It features iconic and beloved songs such as "Sunrise, Sunset," "If I Were a Rich Man" and "Matchmaker, Matchmaker."
