Officials Discuss Security Measures At Ocean City Schools

The Cape May County School Boards Association met at Ocean City High School on Tuesday, according to ocnjdaily.com.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — Ocean City Intermediate School Principal Geoff Haines called the 1999 shooting at Columbine High School “the one that really changed the game” as far as school security is concerned during a Cape May County School Boards Association meeting to discuss the issue at Ocean City High School Tuesday night, ocnjdaily.com reports.

Haines went on to describe security measures that were put in place at the school since, including an array of locking doors and surveillance cameras. Visitors must ring a buzzer at the front door, then pass through a security vestibule before entering the school. They must also sign in and get a visitor’s pass.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kathleen Taylor spoke about the need for mental health programs at the school so that “at-risk” students get the help they need before they commit violent acts.
