Officials Report Ocean City's 1st Coronavirus Death

An 85-year-old woman in a longterm-care facility died from COVID-19.

OCEAN CITY, NJ β€” Cape May County officials reported Ocean City's first coronavirus death Friday. An 85-year-old woman in a longterm care facility died from the virus.

It was not immediately clear in which facility she lived. State data does not yet reflect a death in an Ocean City longterm-care facility. County officials do not comment on specific cases.

The County Health Department has reported nine active cases and 26 people cleared off quarantine in Ocean City as of Friday afternoon.

Officials have counted 214 active cases, 301 people cleared off quarantine and 47 coronavirus deaths in Cape May County. Longterm-care facilities in the county are linked to 111 active cases, 25 people cleared off quarantine and 37 deaths.

The County also reported the death of a 92-year-old Woodbine man Friday.

β€œWith deepest sympathy as we remember these Cape May County residents,” said Cape May County Freeholder Jeff Pierson. β€œPlease know that our thoughts are with the families and friends during this time of healing.”
