📰 News we're reading

1. Elevated levels of fecal bacteria found at 13 South Jersey beaches (thedailyjournal.com) — If you swim near West 8th Street or Battersea Road bays in Ocean City, be aware that state testing found elevated fecal bacteria levels there, along with 11 other South Jersey beaches. The water hasn't been closed, but conditions may be unhealthy, and officials will keep retesting until levels return to normal standards.

2. Summer season federal beach sand replenishment projects are a problem (njtoday.news) — Beach replenishment work in Ocean City is closing sections of shoreline, rerouting access points, and frustrating some vacationers and boardwalk businesses even as it rebuilds storm-damaged dunes. The Army Corps' 24/7 sand-pumping project, funded largely by federal dollars, is expected to finish in September and is considered vital protection for the Boardwalk, homes, and the city's tourism economy despite short-term noise and disruption.

3. Signs summer is ending in NJ, and why locals summer helps (nj1015.com) — Ocean City's OC Waterpark has already shut down its lazy river for the season because too many student lifeguards have returned to school, though the rest of the park remains open with discounted admission. The story uses this and Seaside Park lifeguard shortages to mark the subtle end-of-summer shift and looks ahead to the quieter "locals summer" many Jersey Shore residents enjoy.

4. 2018 N.J. field hockey All-State and top postseason honors: HS historical project (nj.com subscription) — Ocean City field hockey fans can revisit a standout moment: senior midfielder Reese Bloomstead earned Second Team All-State honors in New Jersey's 2018 postseason awards. The republished list showcases top players, coaches, and teams from across the state, offering a nostalgic snapshot for longtime high school sports followers.
