Seniors Dump Mattresses; Wildwood PD Is On The Case

WILDWOOD, N.J. — Watch out: The Wildwood Police Department sent an alert asking the public for help identifying two older women who they say illegally dumped mattresses outside the local recycling center.

That's right, Wildwood PD is getting tough on local ordinance violations. The women approached the Recycling Center in a dark-colored Nissan Pathfinder and dumped several mattresses along the outside fence while the center was closed, police said. A pillowcase was placed over the back of the SUV to conceal the license plate.

Wildwood PD said they would remove the Facebook post once the women were identified. It was removed after about an hour Thursday, but not before the post went locally viral. The post had over 800 shares and 700 comments — many tongue-in-cheek — when I took a screenshot.

The horror. If you let people dump mattresses, what's next? Cheating at bridge? Going to a "Wheel of Fortune" taping and yelling out the answers from the audience? Perhaps this is a gateway to a more serious offense, such as removing a mattress's tag under penalty of law.

Either way, it looks like the post gave many a good laugh. Perhaps the justice system had mercy.
