UPDATE: Fatal Stabbing Behind Tuesday Morning Police Shooting in Atlantic City: Authorities

One person was killed as a result of the shooting, while another person was found dead of apparent stab wounds.

Two people are dead following a police-involved shooting Tuesday morning in Atlantic City, the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed Tuesday evening.

One person is dead as a result of the shooting, while the other was found apparently stabbed to death inside Cedar Market.

Atlantic City Police responded to Cedar Market on Tuesday morning just before 8:30 a.m. after receiving a 9-1-1 call. Police encountered a man outside the building, shooting the man during the ensuing confrontation.

The man was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center City Division, where he was pronounced dead.

Inside Cedar Market, police found the body of a man, dead of apparent stab wounds. According to NBC 10, the man found inside the building was a 29-year-old clerk who worked at the store. Witnesses told NBC 10 the stabbing was the result of a failed robbery attempt.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office didn’t release the identity of either man on Tuesday. Autopsies are scheduled for Wednesday.

The Atlantic City Police Department immediately notified the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office of the incident.

It is the first incident this year in which Atlantic City Police used a weapon in an incident, according to The Press of Atlantic City.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office independently investigates all police-involved shootings and suspected homicides in the county, as mandated by New Jersey Attorney General Directive.

The Atlantic City Police Department is not involved in the investigation.
