It's still summer and it's still warm out. The beaches are significantly less crowded, but businesses and restaurants are still open. Welcome to shoulder season, also known as local summer.

Guarded Beaches
First of all, if you want to swim, make sure you're on a guarded beach. Many drownings and deaths come from people swimming without lifeguards present. Even the strongest swimmers can get swept away by rip currents.

These beaches are guarded from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on weekends. All guarded beaches will be closed after Sept. 17.

Events
These events are going on this weekend:
- Street Rod Show (Sept. 9) - Check out these classic cars in the municipal parking lot at Fifth Street and Boardwalk from 9 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., when they move to the Ocean City Boardwalk to be displayed from Sixth Street to 14th Street until 5 p.m.
- Radio Jukebox with Sheena Easton Presented by the OC Pops (Sept. 9) - Enjoy an evening of eight decades of radio hits at 7:30 p.m. at Ocean City Music Pier.
- Corvette Show (Sept. 10) - More than 350 Corvettes are on display on the Boardwalk from Sixth Street to 14th Street between 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.
